DEAD BANG, loosely based on a true story, is a fun, tongue-in-cheek cop melodrama held together by Johnson's entertaining performance. When he can't stop laughing because he thinks the man looks like Woody Allen, it seems that Jerry's days on the case are numbered. Because of his sometimes unorthodox methods, Jerry is asked by his commander to be cleared for duty by the police psychiatrist or be taken off the case. The detective's investigation is joined by FBI agent Kressler (William Forsythe), a by-the-book type who does little but get in Jerry's way. The investigation takes Beck inside the violent world of hate groups and white supremacists, who are hatching a deadly plot to attack even more innocent people. His research turns up the name Bobby Burns (Frank Military), a member of a white-supremacist organization who's currently on his way to a mass gathering of like-minded hate junkies in Oklahoma.
